Communication
Blackboard Announcements

Announcements allow teaching staff to communicate important, time-sensitive information with their students. Once posted, the announcement message will be visible at the top of the list on the Announcements page and a copy of the message will be sent to the students’ AUT inbox.

Blackboard Discussion Board

Discussion boards provide a space to hold asynchronous discussions in the form of posted messages, such as Q & As.

Collaboration
Blackboard Groups

Groups can be created for students in Blackboard so they can interact with each other and demonstrate their knowledge in a collaborative way. Interactive tools and Blackboard assignments can be created specific to those groups.

Blackboard Blog

A blog is a personal online journal that is frequently updated and intended to share with others. Most blogs also have a commenting feature, so that participants can respond to one another’s thoughts. Blogs encourage students to clearly express their ideas.

Blackboard Wiki

A wiki provides a space for students to work together collaboratively. It allows course members to contribute and modify one or more pages of course-related materials and provide a means of sharing and collaboration.

Blackboard Journal

Journal provides a personal space for students to communicate privately with lecturers. Students can express their thoughts and ask questions. It can also be utilised as a self-reflection tool.

VoiceThread

VoiceThread is an interactive collaboration and sharing tool that enables students to build online presentations by adding images, documents, and videos, and other media to which other users can add comments for discussion.

Bb Collaborate

Blackboard Collaborate is a real-time video conferencing tool that allows you to interact with your students via adding files, sharing applications, and using virtual whiteboards, etc.

Assessment and Feedback
Blackboard Online Tests

Online tests can be used for both formative and summative assessments. A variety of question types are available for use including multiple choice, true or false, short answer and matching. Test questions can be generated from question pools where needed.

Blackboard Assignment

Blackboard Assignment is a native Blackboard tool for assignment submission. It allows students to upload a file/multiple file types such as essay, report, audio, video, Panopto video. It provides a comprehensive process for online submission, marking and feedback.

Turnitin

Turnitin is an assignment submission, originality checking and plagiarism prevention service. It provides a comprehensive process for online submission, marking and feedback.

iPeer

iPeer is a peer review application where instructors can customize and receive students’ evaluations of one another.

Grade Centre

Grade Centre provides a centralised place where all marking is recorded. It is connected to Arion to efficiently allow the transfer of grades to occur.

Panopto

Panopto is a video management tool that allows lecturers and students to seamlessly record and upload videos to Blackboard.

Presentation
H5P.com

H5P is a software used to create, share and reuse interactive content.

Eportfolio
Mahara

Mahara is an e-portfolio system where students can record “evidence of lifelong learning”.

Course Resources @ AUT is an online resource list management system where lecturers can create reading lists for their course.
